A PEACOCK UPDATE AND THE DELICIOUS WORDS OF LANG LEAV

the poetry of lang leav has put me in the mood for love, which is perfect timing because the month of february will be keeping us busy with weddings, weddings, weddings!  i am excited to be getting back in the swing of wedding preparation.

this week i have checked off some of the many things i have had on my to-do list for over a month now. one of the things was to record a mix, which i did today (finally). i will be posting it in the next few days. it is the first of a few different mixes that i will be adding to our website, which will be getting some new love as well.

i am having a really productive week (thank goodness).

THE CRAFT

i attempted to have a craft party last weekend. well, we never got to the crafting portion of the evening, but we did have a good time drinking wine and making homemade pizza. i have become obsessed with mobiles lately. i was determined to create my own. the day after my craft-turned-pizza party, i sat at my dining room table and had a really nice time crafting all by myself. i think this might have to remain something i do alone. it was nice to sit and really get into my own ideas. i do have to say that though mobiles look easy to make, they really are not. it takes patience and a lot of do-overs. this is something i think i can stick with though. i really like that there are no rules. and i like the idea of something keeping me away from bravo TV (i am a real housewives junkie). i will post pictures of my completed mobiles soon.

we are getting ready for our next wedding which is just a couple of weeks away. i received the bride and groom to be's list of song requests yesterday and a lot of the music is stuff i listen to myself, so needless to say, i am thrilled. the reception is a DIY backyard bash which is right up my alley.

hope you are staying cool this week.

stephanie

A PEACOCK UPDATE

well, as one wedding passes another is weeks away. we had the pleasure of spending the day with two of our clients this past weekend. we visited their venue which is a really lovely country club in rancho santa margherita. afterward, we went to their home and they prepared us a delicious meal. it was so great to get to know them.

as i have mentioned in previous posts, i really love the process before a wedding. you get a glimpse into people's lives and even though their musical taste can tend to be really different from ours at times, the music still always makes me feel really good. this is one of the reasons why i love djing weddings. other djs have asked me if it's hard to not always play what i want to play, well, all i can say is that it is always a pleasure playing what people want to hear on a day they have been waiting for and planning for months, a day that they will remember forever. when it all comes together, it is a really special thing. it convinces me that this is what i am meant to do.

on another note, our night at the mezz went so well. so many people came out and the art was plentiful. we met some really talented artists, got to listen to some really good house music and i got to play a small tribute to the beastie boys. everything was well received. we will definitely be doing it again.

marrakesh house and the power of music

we djed a really lovely and heartfelt wedding yesterday at marrakesh house. the day was bittersweet, and i have to say my heart was feeling pretty heavy, as my mother in-law was diagnosed with cancer last month and underwent a very intense surgery just 2 days prior to yesterday's big event. being at the wedding was nice though, you could definitely feel the love in the air. the ceremony was beautiful and many warm things were said about the bride and groom all night long. mariachis played during the prelude and since we were playing music for the ceremony too, we had the pleasure of hanging out with them for a bit. hector shared childhood memories of singing with his mom when she would sing with mariachis. at one point during their performance yesterday, hector called his mom at the hospital and the mariachis dedicated her favorite song to her and played it as she listened over the phone. the touching gesture made me cry and made me happy that she got to listen and experience a little bit of joy, especially right now while she is going through a rough recovery. it was so kind and reminded me of how powerful music can be.

it was such a pleasure to be a part of such a beautiful day.

congratulations, becky and carlos!

steph

10 songs for a wedding processional

1. balcony scene - craig armstrong
2. find love - clem snide
3. you're beautiful - mojave 3
4. the shining - badly drawn boy
5. take care - beach house
6. true love waits - christopher o'riley piano cover (original by radiohead - excellent as well)
7. intro - the xx
8. heartbeats - jose gonzalez
9. the winner is - devotchka
10. from a shell - lisa germano

choosing a really beautiful song for your wedding processional can really add emotion to a wedding. some friends and i recently had a love song session, where we each went around the room and played our favorite love songs for each other. one of the selections i played was bon iver's cover of i can't make you love me/nick of time. this particular cover can easily make you weep. probably not appropriate for a wedding processional, but absolutely lovely, nonetheless.
i am a sucker for a good love song.

october is for lovers

fall is upon us, my lovelies! we have a jam packed october ahead of us, starting this weekend with our lomography club meeting, soundwalk, and wine tasting around town. we also have the shaushkin wedding quickly approaching next weekend. we are preparing feverishly for that and are super excited to be part of another beautiful wedding.

tor and i will  be celebrating our 4 year wedding anny on october 6th.
4 years married, 15 years together going strong. i love that man.

last but not least, we will finally be shooting a short film at the end of the month. we have an incredible group of people involved in making it happen. i can't wait to share it with you.

october is the month for getting down, so don't let anyone stop you.

thank you so much, b.

8.20.2010

the night starts here

the husband and i have been preparing feverishly for the next wedding we are djing. it's pretty exciting because we are also involved in the ceremony portion. which means we both need to get our acts together when it comes to controlling the tears. we are both so weepy at weddings. geez. i am learning a lot about weddings though. we eloped, so there wasn't much to plan. it was pretty much like this "hey baby, let's get married next weekend." "okay cool, where?" and i wouldn't change a thing about it. not that i don't love the idea of putting together a beautiful, memorable party, i love everything about preparing for an event. and i must admit, i think i might be sort of good at it. for now, i will stick to providing the music and dance flavor.

so here it is, the peacock social ad for our djing services.

calling all knot tyers!

we are here for you. we too are married (to each other), so we know the drill. let's plan a memorable wedding playlist together. we are music junkies, love all types. we are suckers for epic, melodic musical loveliness but we also love to dance. we get you.

whether you love or hate gaga, we can deliver your version of a beautiful extravaganza.

with an affordable approach to djing, we will bring the proper noise.

the night starts here.
